The 1871 census shows Annie age 22, Merchants Seamans Wife.
William John her son age 1.
Living at Dukes St, Padstow.
The 1881 census Annie age 32, Mariner's wife.( Mariner is a sailor)
William John age 11
Thomas age 9
Alice Jane age 6
All born in Padstow.
Living at Barrys Lane, Padstow.
The family must have moved sometime from Padstow to Cardiff between 1881 and 1889.
25th Dec 1889 William John marries Emily Ann Blackmore. The parish church, St Mary the Virgin, Cardiff. William age 21, occ Shipwright (ship's carpenter). Living at 31 Knole St, Cardiff.
Emily age 20, living at 1 Dorset St, Cardiff.

William John and Emily had four children.
Ada Mabel b 1893.
William b 1895.
Annie b 1897.
Archibald Frederick b 1901
Cardiff Docks is a port in Southern Cardiff, Wales.
The capital city of Wales.
It was the main port for South Wales Coal.
In 1910 there were 250 tramp steamers owned at Cardiff.
There were still some sailing ships.
Captain Scott sailed from Bute East Dock, Cardiff, June 1910.
He was on The Terra Nova.
The pleasure steamers went from the Pierhead, Cardiff.
The nickname for Cardiff Docks was Tiger Bay.
The 1891 census Isaac Guy age 45, Hatchman ( Stands by ships hatch to assist loading and unloading).

Living at 31 Knole St, Grangetown,Cardiff.
The 1891 census shows that William John ( occ General Labourer) and Emily are visitors at 12 Knole St, Cardiff. They had their first child in 1893.
1893 Isaac dies age only 47
Jul-Aug-Sep,Cardiff District,County Glamorgan, Monmouthshire.
Annie is now a widow.
On the 1st Dec 1899 Alice Jane marries John Henry Tyrrell (Jack).
The 1901 census shows John age 27, occ Chainman engineer works.
Alice age 26
Annie Gwendoline age 8 months,died 1905, age 5.
Annie Guy, widow, age 52.
Thomas Guy, age 29, occ Ferryman ( Dock).
The 1901 census William John age 31 occ Shipwright.
Emily Ann age 32.
Ada Mabel age 8.
William age 6.
Annie age 4.
Thomas Blackmore, married, Father age 61, Journeyman Tailor.
Living at 90 Penharad St. Parish of St Mary Cardiff.
On Christmas Eve the 24th Dec 1902, William John dies age 33.
At 42 St Fagans St, Grange, Cardiff.
The death certificate states his occ as Shipwright Journeyman.
Cause of death, Acute Lobar, Pneumonia 2 days, Cardiac Failure.
In attendance J H Tyrrell, brother- in- law, 21 Rutland St, Grange, Cardiff.
This was a terrible tragedy for the family, Emily was now a widow with four young children, the youngest age only 1 year. William and Emily had been married for only 12 years.
Emily struggled to provide for the children. Her family could not help financially.
She had to go into hospital at some point to have an operation.
Then she decided to put Ada, Annie and Archibald into The Mullers Orphanage, Bristol.
Emily was born in Bristol and went back to live in Bristol with her father Thomas Blackmore.
William left school age 12 in 1908.
On a visit to The Mullers Orphanage Museum, Clifton, Bristol. For a donation of £50 i bought the complete paper file regarding the Guy children. Details of when the children arrived and left, also letters written by Emily, Annie and Thomas.
The 1911 census shows John Tyrrell age 38, occ Waterman, Cardiff Railway Company.

Frederick George Tyrrell 1907-1995.
Annie Guy age 63 1847-1919.
There were two more children born after the 1911 census.
Thomas Edward Tyrrell 1913-1996.
Winifred A E Tyrrell 1915-
Oct 1910 Emily marries Joseph Beacham, Widower with grown up children.
The 1911 census shows.
Joseph Beacham age 48, occ Dock Labourer.
Emily Ann Beacham age 42.
Ada Mabel Guy age 18, Domestic Servant.
William Guy age 16, Errand Porter.
Annie age 14, Worker at chemist shop.
Archibald Frederick age 9.
All living at 7 Sion Place, Clifton, Bristol.
Emily had been able to remove her children from Mullers Orphanage at last.
Although Ada would have left to work as a domestic servant a few years before.
It would have been good for Emily. With the money from four wage packets coming in her life was much better.
Emily and Joseph had one child, Doris Ellena Beacham b Apr- May-Jun 1911.
In 1916 William was called up to fight in WW1.He was injured in France then sent back to fight in Italy. He returned home with shrapnel in his body which eventually killed him in 1933.
1918 was the very bad flu epidemic. Joseph became ill with the flu and died Dec 1918.
He was nursed by the next door neighbour. John Charles Brown who had been a ward orderly when he was a soldier.( Williams future father-in-law).
Once again Emily was a widow.
Her children lived with Emily and supported her until they married.
Emily eventually lived with her youngest daughter Doris and husband Reginald Bowden.
She became ill with a heart condition and died during the war in 1941
